OAK-FRAMED BUILDINGS Thomlinson's Oak Framed Buildings has grown out of the original sawmill business. We specialise in producing bespoke, high-quality oak frames, built to last. We can produce a timber frame alone or finish it with a range of cladding or infill materials. Using post and beam carpentry techniques developed over centuries, we enjoy meeting the challenges of both traditional and contemporary designs, sometimes blending the two. Our portfolio spans new builds, extensions and restoration projects. A team of specialist oak-framing carpenters is assigned to seeing each project through its various stages. The timber-framing process demands experience, skill and patience. Every element of a frame such as a wall or cross-frame is laid out on a framing floor, the joints are individually cut and then the structure is trial-assembled. After marking the timbers with traditional carpenters' marks, the finished frame is re-assembled at the client's site using hand-made oak pegs.
